My 1st instinct was to correct JD and put that it should be smarmy, because I'd never heard the word swarmy...but I went ahead and looked up swarmy and they basically mean the same thing.
Nothing to correct either way, this is what I said,
"It just seems swarmy, {is that a word?},"

Speaking of old sayings by dads, here is one my father beat into me as I was growing up. "Look with your eyes, not your mouth" I always hated it, but I find I use it sometimes with my kids now. Makes sense now.
