In my experience when selling Med Supps and cross selling FE it is almost always the woman who makes the decision.

When I call if the husband answers the phone he more often than not will tell me that his wife takes care of that. During the presentation he may get up and tell his wife to call him when she makes the decision.

I never ask who makes those decisions when I call. I just start talking to who ever answers the phone. If the one who answers doesn't make the decision they will always tell me early on in the call.

I ask for the name on the reply card. If it's Bob Jones, I ask for Bob Jones no matter if it's a woman or man that answers. If it has Bob and Linda Jones on the card, I ask for Bob or Linda Jones no matter if it's a man or woman that answers the phone.

That is the only time I will use their first names. If the person answering says, this is Bob Jones, I then say, "OK Mr. Jones, this is JD with ......"

I will refer to them as Mr or Mrs. unless they tell me to call them by their first name. Many people say they like to use their first names and they seem to do just fine with that. I don't. I use Mr. and Mrs. and the fact that that not many tell me to use their first names makes me think they like to be adddressed as Mr. or Mrs. I also say "no sir, yes sir, no ma'm and yes ma'm".

It's just personal preference. If you call me up out of the blue to sell me something and I don't know you and you call me "John", I'll hang up on you.
