MAPDs Vs. MAs.... VA Benefits (PDP ?)

Can I put someone who already has a good drug plan through their VA benefits, onto a MAPD plan?

I'm not sure I'll be able to offer any MAs at this point, and wondering, since MAPDs are so more widely available, if it would be okay to sign someone up with VA benefits under a MAPD, while allowing them to keep their current drug plan.

Also, is it more or less beneficial for those on tricare to get onto a MAPD plan? And Why?

I don't know why you'd want to do either. If they're getting their drugs from the VA, it's probably @ $2-4 per prescription. If they're on Tri Care, it's better coverage than any MA plan...and it's free.

He never said Tri-Care, it's VA benefits and it is a great idea to have a MAPD with VA. You have the option of going to the VA but you also can get drugs and services outside of the VA for other things like dental, vision, preventative when it is inconvenient to go to the VA. You give up nothing and you gain a lot.

X2. I recommend an MA/MAPD for all Veterans so they have access to outside services.

In my area, there's a VA hospital within an hours drive. The way I understand it, they can go to any hospital in an emergency and be transferred to the VA.

I can see where a free or low premium MA/MAPD would make sense for outside services in an area where a VA hospital is too far away.

You are right about the last sentence sorry. The VA benefit is different than the Tri-care and thought it was a different question. Even when there is a VA hospital within a mile sometimes it's more convenient to go outside of the VA. All of my Va/MAPD clients love the advantages of the MAPD ( excuse the pun)

I think it's 8 bucks standard for prescriptions through the VA.
