Marketing During Tax Season

I was looking at new ideas for marketing in the upcoming year. One idea I had was to start networking with Accountants and Tax Preparers. Possibly to have flyers at their office and maybe even have them generate leads by asking if they are interested in a family protection quote and I would compensate for the leads.

Has anyone done this before? What were some results?

Does this seem like a good idea?

It seems like a great time because people have money and they just got through the holidays which is a big family time. The downside I can see is you might get some policies that do not stay on the books because people don't manage their money for the payments throughout the year.

In my state you can't compensate someone for a referral unless they are licensed in the LOB you are soliciting. That's a quick way to get your license suspended. Better check the DOI regs in your state before you do that.

From my understanding, here you cannot compensate for "sales" and the company referring the client cannot give "quotes" to the prospect. For example, the accountant will just ask if they are interested in receiving more information. If they say yes, then they forward the information to me to contact the prospect. I would have to pay for everyone lead they forward, like $15 per lead. If I was to pay only if the prospect buys, like $50 per sale, then that would be illegal. It is much like paying a lead company to generate leads.

So you can't buy leads in your state? It seems that the OP is offering to compensate based on the referral's info (essentially a lead), not on a contingency that they do business...
