Med Supp: Is It Legal...

To hired someone to go out and asks every senior he or she comes across in the community if they're on Medicare or not? The hired person will not mention anything about Med Supp or MA, but just taking info such as:

Age:
Medicare or Not:
City:
Phone:

The reason for this is because I noticed after making 100 calls today, about 80% of those on my list are on Medicaid.

Not sure of the answer to the question in this case in my state the door to door knocking of seniors is disallowed for Senior products, not sure how this unlicensed person would be interpreted..probably the quickest thing to do is buy a new list and increase the income amount for the data you want.

Norwayguy's advice is solid. It is always best to check local rules and regs. However, I can't imaging that taking a survey, which is what it appears to be, would be a problem. It sounds like it may be worth a try.

I would also say that you need a new list possibly in a different zip code. It sounds like you may be targeting an extremely depressed area such as an inner city zip code. If not then, as Norwayguy suggests, increase the income.

Med Supps are best sold to middle income retirees.

Frank,

By middle class what do you mean? My list are for 67-78, annual income between 25K-99K. I guess I shouldn't be too quick to judge since I'm only calling 100 today and get 95 contacts.

I'm amazed that with that income range you are getting people on Medicaid. Two thousand + dollars a month for a senior is a lot of money considering they also qualify for Medicaid.

The other thing is that the quality of the list you purchased may leave a lot to be desired. I once ordered a list that was suppose to have been updated recently only to find out that a lot of people had moved several years ago or had died several years before I called them.

You should not be talking to Medicaid people with the list you ordered.

It varies by state, and you should check that out. In Virginia you could do this for Medicare supplements but not Medicare Advantage plans. However, if you are paying for the referral, it can't be based on you making the sale.

I would think it would be somewhat difficult to get this information by just meeting someone and immediately starting to ask personal questions. One thing, your list seems like there are issues because you are contacting the same demographics that I am, and it is rare that I get Medicaid eligible people.

Medicaid people are great prospects for MA's depending what type of assistance they are receiving.

You should know the answer to that question It is ethically wrong to use a survey or marketing campaign as a back door way of gaining peoples information for a future marketing endeavor such as medicare supplement sales. You should not want to even have any part of a deceptive campaign like that. And yes I would assume most state depts of insurance whould frown on such activities. Of course the enforcement of these rules is weak at best but you never know when you might run into some nark like "Gordon" and others who hang out on this site who make it a practice of turning in other insurance agents. Best to fly straight and heres another little secret for all these so called sales pros around here You dont have to lie to people or trick them or sneak up on them to sell them you simply look them in the eye state your name and what your business is and if they dont like it then move on.

I get T65 lists, scrub against DNC....been doing it several months now and I might get 1 out of 25 that's on Medicaid.

80% on Medicaid?:swoon:
