Just spoke with my dentist. He has already been hit by the 2.3% medical device tax, and all of his services went up by $3 to $27. We are all paying for this HCR through these hidden taxes (on top of higher premiums).

This is along the same logic as taxing health insurers to make health insurance more affordable. You just can't make something like that up!

Same idiocy as Maines Dirigo program. To fund the subsidies that Dirigo members got the state levied taxes on healthcare premiums. So it meant that if you had insurance now or where trying to get it and where not poor enough for Dirigo your costs went up. It always struck me as strange instead of allowing insurers to underwrite people and have costs come down for all but the unhealthy and then setting up a risk pool for those people everyone paid more and then certain people ie the insured paid and even higher cost to then subsidize the poor.

In GA we have a hospital bed tax to help fund Medicaid. Of course this is just another way of cost shifting since Medicaid (and Medicare) pay whatever they want and the rest of us make up the difference.

On the bright side for dentists, the Affordable Care Act mandates that qualified health plans include dental coverage for children. This will bringeth more $$$ than the device tax taketh away...no?
