Big delays for Part A, long story, Part B effective 3/1/2020, the month of turning 65. Part A will eventually be granted as 3/1/2020.
Social Security is working to correct the error which could take another 30 days, they say.
The prospect has kept their grandfathered medical plan, no tax credit, of course. Do they need to cancel the grandfathered plan now? If it were ACA based, the answer would be yes.

They don't need to cancel Obamacare plan until they KNOW they have both A & B. Bites that A will be retroactive. Seems like they can be snake bit no matter which way they go.

Best case is to do nothing UNTIL they know A is in place.

In the meanwhile they are in limbo. Can't move without going into checkmate.

That has been my strategy, or which cartoon character was it that said stragety. I called Medicare Rights Center to see if they had any past experience to offer. Their suggestion was call Social Security again, since Social Services in the client's county had not received (they said) the referred app from Social Security for Medicaid, which in a Rube Goldberg sequence needed to be rejected, said rejection back over to Social Security, etc, etc.
Client did call Social Security. This time the SS rep agreed, ridiculous, and referred the app to processing to issue Part A, which, wait for it, will be up to 30 days.
