Which is more advantageous to the agent in getting appointed for Medicare supplements and advantage plans?

Going through a general agent?

Going through the company directly on your own?

Are the commissions the same, support, problem solving etc.

please advise as a very well known medicare guy on this board who I was referred to outside of this board in December failed to ever do what he offered and caused me to lose about $2500 in commissions.

Thank you

Please explain and name names. You do not seem to have much of a grasp of the process and people here can help if we know more and understand your issues.

Interesting.. How did this "well known medicare expert" take 2500.00 from you, not disputing your word just curious. Always go direct if you can. How long have you been in the medicare market? Remember, do what is right for the client and you will always come out "advantageous".

MA plans are BS. The companies will steal your commissions, and throw you under the bus, when the member lie on you to get out of the plan during lock-in.

Yep, sounds like a medicare advantage problem.
As for going direct with a company, sometimes you can get better deals, sometimes not. I find that I can usually give my agents better comps than the companies are willing to give.
You should fill us in on what the other guy promised and what he didn't do for you.
There is a very competitive med supp in Alabama starting May 1. I have a lead program with that also if you're interested.
If you are wanting any other general information, you can call me anytime...by the way, you don't have to be an agent of mine for me to help out, I'll be glad to speak with you about your problems you're experiencing.

Go direct whenever you can.

GA's will make sure that they are the "agent of record" on every app you write. Never sign anything that lets anyone else be the "agent of record", never ever. Insurance companies for the most part will not screw you, they just offer no or very little help.

I think that you will find the "support, problem solving etc." equally crappy regardless of which way you go. If you are going to work in the senior market you better be prepared to learn to do all of that yourself.

Find a mentor who can give you a real world education about Medicare and the options available for seniors. Someone who also knows the "ropes" and all of the pitfalls to avoid. That is one of the first things I teach agents who want to work in the senior market.

This can be a real dirty business and there are a lot of sharks circling around just waiting to take a bite out of a new inexperienced agent. Stories like that piss me off so bad.

And, I'm holding back.

Who is the SOB that screwed you so bad? You owe it to other agents, especially the ones new to the senior market, to out the dick head.

.

Frank, that's the very reason I teach all my agents to deal with the insurance companies. They should be sending all of their paperwork straight to the companies. That's all the more reason too, that I give out such high contracts, ones that they probably can't get on their own.

Todd,

If there were more people like you in this business we agents wouldn't have nearly as much to bitch about. Do you have any idea what that would do to this discussion board? I'd probably only have about one third of the posts that I now have.

You are just about the only one who I will recommend to agents looking for a place to get good, fair contracts with a "real person" who understands what we do and is willing to help if we need it.
