Medicare Supps Vs Medicare Advantage

Why would anyone pay for a med supp when they can get a MA for free? Is there a certain income level to qualify for MA?

No income requirement. You must be confusing Medicaid with Medicare Advantage a/k/a Part C of Medicare. It depends on where you are located as to whether a Med Supp would be better than an MA plan. Other than some MA plans that are offered in large metropolitan areas, it probably is advantageous to go with a Med Supp when copays, deductibles, and limits are taken into consideration, even on zero premium MA plans. However, that being said, most MA plans have been increasing all those outlays as well as eliminating zero premiums. IMHO the MA is going the way of the dinosaur

You are going to pay one way or another. If you pay for the Medd supp per month, you have $0 out of pocket expenses when you go to the hospital. If you get a MA, you have to pay a deductible when you go to the hospital. Some plans here in TN its $225/day you are hospitalized for the first 5 days. Which in essence is your Part B deductible.
