Question I got asked at a dinner last night- If someone receives their US citizenship at age 75, do they have a 6 month SEP for Medigap that starts when they enroll in Medicare, or does that only exist if they are enrolling right when they turn 65?

State is MD or Washington DC

Thanks

The 6 months starts when their Part B starts.

Their age is not a factor.

There's a five year waiting period before they are eligible for Medicare. The five year clock usually starts when they enter the country and get their green card.

Once they do that regular enrollment rules apply.

1 year from date of marriage to a citizen. They can draw off their spouses benefits.

My friend and his wife are US citizens, he said there was some path for his parents to become citizens in 18 months.

I don't know how that works, but assuming it is true, would that 5 year wait apply?

Or could they become eligible for part B as soon as they become citizens?

Thanks for all the knowledge dropped in this thread!
