MGAs Take Over the Agent's Role in the Exchanges?

Anyone given this any thought? What other group is better positioned to administrate and sell HC plans to businesses and Individuals? They have the technology and the staff to do so. Has anyone read your MGA contract to see how they specifically state that they (the MGA) will not poach your clients? Any protection? Maybe that's why many MGAs don't seem too concerned...

...and they also have a sizable client list thanks to all the agents they support.

I know, I know, here I go again with a conspiracy theory :)

I think the younger generation likes to say, "I'm just sayin"

I would think that they are in the worst position. They don't sell any policies themselves, most are just recruiting and training houses.

If they are going to pay anyone in this whole thing then its going to be the agent that brings them the business, not the IMO/MGA.

My understanding is that they will be frozen out.

I would agree with the insurehound.

MGA and even GA might have a difficult time in the health insurance future. The only way they are in the equation is if you are currently doing large volume.

If comp is cut in half how is a MGA or GA going to keep production up?

If comp is cut in half why would an agent even bother with an MGA/IMO?

Why not get appointed direct?

I disagree, what "seeling" would be required if we have three or four plan choices and if the Goberment pushes everyone to the Exchange?

Yep, and they will have a "HealthCare Exchange Kiosk" in every WalMart , Walgreens and CVS. Just press the red button on the kiosk if you need assistance. This will be available to those without computers or internet access.
Insurance Agents grab your ankles!

Based on that scenario, we all out of business........

I just don't see how the IMO's that are primarily health based can make it.

If I was an insurance company why would I pay an IMO X% when they don't actually do any selling?

Sure they can recruit, but if the commission points aren't there then how can they continue?

In CA we may found out pretty soon. Both AB 1602 and SB 900 are sitting on Arnold's desk awaiting approval or veto.

These bills will set up the CA Health Insurance Exchange this year.
