The MCCA was a great idea 30+ years ago, back when fees were less than $5 per year per vehicle. What a great idea to offer unlimited lifetime medical benefits to everyone. But today, the MCCA system is broken! The problem with having guaranteed unlimited lifetime medical benefits is that both the medical & legal professions abuse this guarantee, driving up costs.
Well.... the costs are about to go up again! it is currently at $145 per year per vehicle. And as of July 1, it will go up to $175.
The MCCA paid out 897 Million in claims in 2010. *(source: MCCA press release, 3-25-2011)
The MCCA paid out 927 Million in claims in 2011. *(source: MCCA press release, 3-25-2012)
So a 3.3% increase in MCCA claims paid resulted in a 21% increase in MCCA fees. Sound fair to you?
Overall, bad idea IMHO!
