I'm fairly new, independent, licensed and appointed by several carriers. Wellmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield, MoO, Assurant, North American etc, etc. My GA's on both the heath and life side have been very helpful. I have no doubt or worries about getting appointed by other carriers as I get apps.
I'd like some feedback on my plan going forward, if you'll spare some time. I'm thinking on three areas: health, med supps(and FE), and some life.
My "natural market" puts me within the hospitality industry selling to individuals without health or small group. I sold beer for several years and have developed relationships with owners/managers and employees of bars and restaurants. I envision face to face re-introductions to those without health insurance to get started with the health aspect. I've had several GM's agree to give me 10 minutes at the end of their next staff meeting to introduce myself and let them know what I can do for them.
Concerning Med Sups, I'm new but knowledgeable- certainly no expert. I've been through formal training (Blue Cross/Blue Shield), informal training(thanks Frank!) read Medicare and You and many other publications. I will do AHIP/MA certification this week. (another arrow in the quiver-through Wellmark)
I'm thinking of buying a 67+ DNC scrubbed list (for what I consider cheap-$100/1000) for me to "practice" on. I don't think I want to spend $8-9 for a lead I may screw up due to my inexperience.
The life end of it may have to just come as it does for now. I have access to the SAGE scholars program (which is a great tuition assistance program for folks with young kids-or any kids)to get in the door and maybe sell some Life/Annuities. "Hi, I can help you pay for 25% of your kid's college. The catch is you have to listen to my pitch on how to pay for the other 75%."
Health: beat the bricks; work face to face
Med Sups/FE: beat the phone; buy an inexpensive list and work it
Life: don't know what to beat-just tell everyone I know and give them my card
Sound reasonable or am I off? Trying to keep it somewhat focused, but also with a little diversity.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
