NC Exchange

Ok thanks. Talked to Cigna and they said I could write it with them as long as Cigna is primary because they won't coordinate benefits.

off exchange is available for U65 Medicare benes in NC. The original question was for exchange plans or subsidized plans which are not allowed if you're on Medicare.

This is interesting. Why would a carrier want to write a U65 Medicare beneficiary (disabled) as Primary, and refuse to coordinate?

I have no idea, the whole thing is strange. I didn't know that Cigna would allow a bene to join after they were on Medicare, but the State doesn't disallow it.

I've had clients that stayed on individual plans when they aged into Medicare, against my advice, but they usually caved in less than a year. In this case, it sounds like the client doesn't know what he's doing.

If you look at u65 Supp premiums in NC, they're very high with carriers that are willing to UW. The ones that are cheap only do OE apps. In fact, I had one that refused to uw u65 after they told me that they would do it.

Definitely will look into this, if carriers are willing to accept u65 Medicare benes outside of their Medicare OE period on ind plans, then it may actually be cheaper than the u65 supp premiums.
