I just started getting the following error while using my CRM. It is happening when I type a letter from within and print it. The program will ask if I want to save a copy to the database, which it always does, and when I click 'yes' that's when I get the error message. It is as follows:

Runtime error '339'
Component 'XceedZip.dll' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered. A file is missing or invalid

For the life of me I can't figure this out. On my desktop, this particular file (xceedzip.dll) is in one location within the CRM. On my laptop, it is in two locations (one being C:\Windows\System32 and the other within the CRM location). I have tried placing this file within the Windows\System32 location on my desktop and gotten no success on resolving the problem.

The other thing I've noticed is that when I go back to view any prior letters I've written to clients/prospects, they are blank. It shows the date the letter was sent, but when you click to open it, there is nothing there. If I view them on the laptop they are there. Really strange.

I've even copied the program from the laptop and transferred it to the desktop (that's the way I had to do it when I upgraded to a new desktop) and that isn't working.

And before anyone asks, have you asked the creators of the CRM, all they say is that I need to purchase the updated version of the software. I bought this program more than a decade ago and got tired of spending the $200+ per year on annual support for which I didn't use (funny now that I need it). So their answer is that I can't pay for a year of support since I stopped. I must purchase the software again.

Any ideas from the experts?

I did google, but didn't really find any clear answers that work for me. For those of us who don't speak programmer we need a simple step by step instruction. I'm not illiterate when it comes to computers, but this one has challenged me greatly. And I've probably stressed more than I normally would because it's my CRM.

I did buy my daughter a Mac and she loves it. Sometimes she asks me questions and all I can say is that I know nothing about Mac's. Also, to get my CRM to work on a Mac I would have to buy a new program. Really am considering switching to some cloud based form of CRM.

What version of Windows are you using?

What CRM are you using and what version of it?

Have you done an update to anything (i.e. Windows) lately that might have installed a newer copy of XceedZip.dll?

Bottom line you have a registration problem meaning either your register is screwed up (happens all the time in Windows... there are a ton of registry "cleaners" out there that are cheap.. maybe free) or you have a newer version of Xceed which is not backward compatible to your old CRM

Why not just register the one in the CRM directory and see how that works. (you may have to re-boot the machine after doing this, I'm not sure.)

This may help:

xceedzip.dll not registered causing symptoms such as Electronic Claims screen not opening.

and there are tons of links on how to solve a 339 error:

Runtime error '339' - Google Search.

You might consider re-installing your old version of the CRM again, but make sure you can save and re-load the data!

You might also begin the process of getting a copy of SugarCRM (the CE version) and installing it on your server and seeing if it will work for your business model and start fresh? Or maybe get Radius or some other system.... lord knows there are a zillion of them out there?

Going forward with a 10 year old product is not the most prudent thing you can do... but since you are a conservative I understand your POV.

Back in the "old days" the simplest way to (re)register a .dll was to double-click on it. You won't see anything happen, and don't know if that still works on the new windows stuff.

If not, you may have to use regsvr32 as referred to in the google results.

Hope this helps.

Oh...cloud...one word - SalesForce (or is that 2 words?). Been using it for over two years with absolutely no downtime and no problems. I use the "Group" version for fifty cents a day ($50/qtr). Upgrades are transparent and have never "broken" it. I think you can trial it for 30 days.

If you don't like the page layouts you can easily move things around, add/delete fields, formulas, etc., and make it a simple workflow. But it's ready to go "out of the box" as soon as you sign up, no installation etc.

Just start putting in Leads and converting them to Account/Contacts with Opportunities (policies - plural) by making Tasks (calls) and keeping Events (appointments).

I highly customized mine when I was captive, according to their "workflow model". Now that I'm independent I got rid of their junk and it's a lean, mean, ready machine! (Some of that "captive training" helped, I suppose...).

P.S. I demo'd over THIRTY crm's (sugar, freecrm, zoho, and other free and paid, local and cloud-based) before settling on SalesForce. There was always something the others would not do that I wanted them to do, and there's nothing I have found that SalesForce can't do.

Very first step I would suggest would be scanning your hd with chkdsk or whatever windows does now for corrupt sectors, and defragmenting the drive.

To use the System File Checker, follow these steps:
  1. Close any open programs on your Desktop
  2. Click on the Start button
  3. Click Run
  4. Type this command in the Run box: SFC /SCANNOW
  5. Click the "OK" button
After that, check and see if the problem is still occuring. If it is, pm or email me with your windows version and what the name of that crm is and I'll try to find the actual answer to your question. I imagine its something as simple as replacing that file in a couple places, one of the copies of the file might be corrupt and causing the issue. From what I saw in my 30 seconds of checking, it didn't appear to be an unfixable problem.

Thanks everyone for your input. The solution was to not only place the file in the system32 folder, but to also register it there. I initially noticed that the file was only in one location on my desktop and two on my laptop. I wasn't sure if it was just due to the fact that my laptop is running XP and my desktop is running Windows 7. I originally registered the file in the place it was located on my desktop and that didn't do the trick. So when I placed the file in the system32 folder I never registered it. After putting it on the back burner and getting some work done, I went back and walked through what I had done already and realized I never registered the file in the system32 location. Once I did that, I have had no problems since.

Al, you just couldn't help yourself could you? Always having to make a dig when one isn't necessary. For what it's worth, I use Agency Expert from Welcome. It does exactly what I need it to do (when I don't have an issue like I just did - first time in 10 years). I realize that you think that because it's a 10 year old program that it must be outdated. As I said, it does exactly what I need it to do. I'm of the mindset, "if ain't broke, don't fix it." It prints all the reports I need. It stores all the data I need for each client/prospect. Not sure what else buying a new CRM will do for me. As I said, I may be going to one in the cloud just to avoid these types of issues in the future. Your advice would have been just fine without the dig.

So you are pissed at me for trying to help you? Why am I not surprised. It's par for the course on this board.

Gee Scott, maybe a "Hey, thank you, Al3, for taking the time to help and finding the answer to my problem" would be nice? Even if you don't mean it, it would still be the "right" thing to do. I mean, who else took the effort to find you the answer to your problem?

Scott, you are one of the most acerbic people on this board in the non-insurance sector and in the "reform" sector. The little "dig" was just a bit of humor... pretty much the same as you "give" to others elsewhere on this board. The post showed some "humor" emoticons. Please. Get over yourself. You "give it" well. You need to learn to "take it" AS well!

Given our non-too-friendly (i.e. "ugly") relationship these past several years, you should have some gratitude to me for making the effort to show you the answer and to document it with lots of links and examples. I didn't see any of your arch-con friends come to your rescue.

As I often say, there are a lot of people on this board who are not here to educate, they are here to castigate.

So yeah, Scott. YOU'RE WELCOME to my assistance. I'm SO GLAD I was able to help you. And yes, you are right. I made the effort just to get a "dig" in at you. Don't worry, I won't bother helping you again given your bad attitude.

I swear, the way some of you guys here treat those who are just asking questions or trying to help someone is simply terrible.

I have my "moments" on this board, but when someone goes out of their way to help me (like on the "banking question" and "cousin selling house" I don't come back and kick them in the balls for doing so.

Some of you need to learn some simple manners... and if you can't learn the words "thank you" perhaps learn to just keep your bad attitude to yourselves and not exhibit your generational entitlement mentality that we've seen so many of you younger guys post on this board over and over the past six years.

Sheesh. How do some of you guys live with yourselves... always angry and hurtful and just plain mean? A little anger is fine... but all day, everyday?

Chill!

You got that I was pissed at you from that? Lighten up Francis.

Gee Scott, maybe a "Hey, thank you, Al3, for taking the time to help and finding the answer to my problem" would be nice?

Which part of "Thanks everyone for your input" did you not comprehend? You were one of the people who posted so that makes you part of everyone. Or did you need me to mention your name specifically?

Scott, you are one of the most acerbic people on this board in the non-insurance sector and in the "reform" sector.

If I am one of the most, you are the king of it Al.

The little "dig" was just a bit of humor... pretty much the same as you "give" to others elsewhere on this board.

Give me a break Al. Your history is one of antagonism, not humor. How else is a person to take your "dig" when your history shows you as being one full of vitriol?

Sheesh. How do some of you guys live with yourselves... always angry and hurtful and just plain mean?

Let's not forget, you were the one who couldn't give an answer without making a dig. Who's the angry and hurtful one?

Wow! That's what I'd use if it wasn't so expensive. I've looked at it several times. I like "old" tech that doesn't break for 10 years. (I just looked at it again, sigh).

If you end up going to the cloud, SF is older tech bolted onto the cloud, so it is robust. And easy to customize. But with all that AE does, it would take a lot of customizing to match what AE can do, depending on how many features (and modules) of AE you are using.

My needs are simple, so a little customization of SF was all that was needed, and AE is definitely overkill for me. Perhaps one day...
