Hi All

I have a Male 65, he will be 66 (11-10-44) this year. Is there a Med Sup or MA I can put him on Now?

If so which one would have the lowest premium or cost him zero he is in Florida. All replys welcomed and really appreciated. Thank you very much.

Med. supp - yes, he is eligible for a med supp, if he currently has Medicare parts a AND b. No such thing as a 0 premium medicare supplement. However, Plan N is very inexpensive

MA plan- depends, when did he enroll in part b, did he recently lose his health coverage at his employer, etc. If he doesn't qualify, he will have to wait until the Annual Enrollment period which is coming up soon.

These explanations are simplistic, but they are the situations that you are most likely to run into.

to piggy back VaDwayne...

I would go to Medicare.gov and shop the MA plans (you can put in his zip code and see what plans are available).

Most states department of insurance sites have a listing of Medicare Supplements available.

Enrollment in a MA plan depends on if he has a viable enrollment period.

Supplements can be enrolled into anytime but depending on his situation he may need to pass underwriting.

You can put him in a Med Supp at anytime of the year providing he can successfully answer "no" to the appropriate health questions.

If he received Part B of Medicare when he turned 65 he will be beyond the Open Enrollment period. Check the effective date on his Medicare ID card. If he declined Part B then he will need to apply for it.

Depending on his zip code I think you will find either Mutual of Omaha or AARP to have the best premiums for a Med Supp.

Since he may be beyond Open Enrollment, if he can't answer the health questions, Mutual of Omaha's Plan N in Florida only has one health question, ESRD. If he can answer "no" to that question then the policy will be issued.

I can send you the premiums for MOO in Florida if you will send me your e-mail address.

Check out his income level as well. If he qualifies for low income assistance, you can write him a MAPD when he's approved for drug help.
Also, does he have a drug plan now? Did he drop his coverage at work? Also, he may qualify for a special needs medicare plan if he has certain chronic diseases and if one is sold in his county. Refer to Medicare.gov as some one suggested. Special Needs plans carry a special election period that you could use as well.

Hi ghealthplus,

Great answers from the folks on here to answer your question.

My question: Are you certified and contracted to sell Medsupps? Have you ever sold one?

Just wondering because your specific question was so very simple it should not have been asked. No Offense, blah blah blah.

I'm in Florida, send me the guys info and I'll help him out and tell you how I did it. Live and Learn!

He may be referring to AARP. I believe that they require the same certification to sell Med Supps that is required to sell Medicare Part C plans.

Yes, thanks Frank. That is the terminology used by UHC for the AARP products, ie email subject line from the district management:
"2011 Certifications Open Next Monday."

Now that the semantics and vocabulary lesson is over for the guy from PA. I still wonder how and why the original thread starter is asking such simple questions if he had ANY KIND OF KNOWLEDGE of MEDICARE supplements, not the kind you take to make you feel better and calm.

Gotta go take some now!
