New Agent

Thanks, I think I have very good communication skills and I don't think you meant my English is not strong but it is so no issues with that lol. I see what you're saying but did you have a lot luck getting positive response from those small businesses you called? Again, I want to just focus on mortgage protection/FEX leads so that probably isn't the right strategy for me, right?

Is your focus only on conversion ratios or on net results?

His focus was on net results - making the 300-400 calls per day (per his post), making connections and seeing where it went.

I think you're focusing on trying to get the most out of the leads you have.

One is an abundant mentality. The other is scarcity.

Here's the secret: Whether it's paid for leads or you buy a list and call them... they are all responding to YOU. YOU will be the differentiator on if they will be great leads... or not. Not because of the quality of lead... but because of the quality of salesperson and agent you are.

These are leads (ideally properly cultivated and qualified, not just responding to some giveaway or other junk response programs), but they will still require the skills of an agent to help them to make a buying decision.

Don't bother with cold calling a list. Assuming you're face-to-face, you definitely need to be knocking these leads (even the ones who hung up). You're not going to be successful if you give up easily.

As far as your initial question about where to find quality leads, it's been answered. You should be buying fresh DM leads. At least 25 per week.

Just curious about the reasoning? Why discourage that as a new agent? You'd be content with dialing the 25/week? Worst case scenario, he sharpens up some of his soft skills, while building confidence on the phone. Name of the game, especially in the beginning, is getting in front of as many people as possible. And if that means picking up the phone trying to drum up business the old school way, so be it. Your way demonstrates limitation.

Quick way to burn out. Not a good use of time. Not to mention, he'd have to scrub his cold call list against the DNC list to ensure TCPA compliance.

Better for a new agent to follow a proven path to success. Rather than trying to find a way to skimp on buying leads. New agents should be willing to invest their money, as well as their time and effort.

As @Jccwell said that it's just not the best use of time for an agent who is going to specialize in FE/MP policies. These policies have monthly premiums between $50 - $100/month. We can do the math on a simple 100% contract what that will pay out.

The idea is to set up 3-5 appointments per DAY.

You can't be in the field making appointments AND be doing enough dialing activity in order to get that kind of activity as well. The money spent on a lead mailing program helps to free up time to be spent face-to-face with potential buyers.

Now, if he was working a different market, a different angle, a different kind of sale, then that would be better for making dials. But this product specialization requires leveraging your prospecting through systems and you spend your time in the field talking to potential buyers.

Also starting agents in FE are at 120% not 100%. That is important because the 20% in those two figures will pay $2,000 toward your monthly lead cost if you are writing just $2500 weekly (a fairly low bar).

Few Brand new agents are going to spend $800 a week on Dm leads . (20x$40 a lead) week in week out . Postage going up in jan again . Curious to see what fixed cost leads go to . Some areas already $45-$50

That's fine. The fail rate has always been high.

It's still $35 per lead in most of the US. But you're right, it will probably go up (and already has in some areas). Even if it cost $45 a lead, I'll pay it. The ROI is worth it for me.
