Hi all, from North Carolina
I've been to this site so many times, I decided to finally register. The information here is very helpful. I hope you can help me with this one. I have a client with Neurofibromatosis. He is othewise perfectly healthy. I have searched for any company that would cover this condition. [Other than BCBS which is outragous] I looked into AIM health insurance, then I read all the posts here and checked with NCDOI. I can't seem to find who the carrier is.
Some plans will consider him with an elimination rider. I've even thought the best way to go would be an HSA, at least he would get some tax benefit if he has to cover this condition himself.
Any input would be appreciated

Alice,

It appears NC has a High Risk Pool that may work:
North Carolina Health Insurance Risk Pool, 339 days and counting « writemyline

The North Carolina Health Insurance Risk Pool, or NCHIRP, will make sure that folks who are looking to purchase health insurance but who have a chronic disease or condition or a disability can get coverage for a reasonable premium.
NCHIRP is significant in reducing the number of adult NC citizens who are presently uninsured. The high-risk pool means the provider of last resort (BCBSNC) cannot charge high-risk individuals more than 200% above the normal rate. 200% is a lot; but the changes still result in about a 50% reduction of high-risk coverage premiums that were previously allowed by the state. Someone currently paying $1600/month for high-risk coverage will get a break of about $800./month. So, the new rates will make it at least a little easier to get and keep coverage.

I am not sure agents can sell this, but if you can't find something better, this may be a last resort answer. Good Luck!

Welcome to the forum Alice. Sorry, not much help here. I don't know of any company that will do that one. A rate up might be his best bet.

It sounds like your client may need a guarantee issue program. That may be why you went to AIM. If you have to go to this type of product, Health Essentials may work. It is a good product for it's class. My company can provide more information if you want it.
