Hello all,
I'm new to the forum. I wanted to introduce myself and hopefully use this platform to try to avoid pitfalls as much as possible. While I'm new to insurance sales I'm not new to the insurance industry. I worked almost 20 years in information technology for an insurance company. So when the company decided to make a technology change I decided to try something new rather than relocate.
I followed my wife into insurance sales. She's been an independent agent almost 8 years and is doing well. But we're very different personality types. She's "ready, fire, aim" and I'm not. So far I've worked with two IMOs and they were at completely opposite ends of the spectrum. The first offered zero support and training. The second is of the MLM variety. Yeah, the training's there but it's the same "ready, fire, aim" approach (i.e. buy leads, go attempt to make a sale, then we'll tell you what you did wrong if you fail). I felt like I had rejoined Amway (yeah, did that too) in being encouraged to build a team for residual income. And right now I'm trying to get myself proficient before I start trying to recruit someone else.
After helping my mom and sister navigate their insurance needs in their final years, I determined I like working with seniors. Final Expense and Medicare are what I want to sell. As I previously mentioned, I'm newly licensed so I'm looking to find the right IMO that offers the sales training and support I need to be successful. Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
