New to the USA

Hello all

I have just relocated to NJ in the USA.

I have been in the Financial services industry for most of my life, in the Life and Investment field for the first six years then moving to the the Commercial Insurance sector for the last 14 years

I have experience in South Africa and the U.K. and wish to transfer that experience and add value to a company here in the U.S.

Does anyone have any tips for a starting point?

I was thinking perhaps as an Account Manager moving to Account Executive or Underwriter?

The U.K. and the South African industries are identical but I have an idea that the US industry is a little different

Any comments and suggestions would be welcome!

do you like the prospect? if yes, go become an agent, if not then continue on the path you outlined above.

You're the second person I've meet that has moved to the US from South Africa in the past couple of months. Do you know a chap by the name of Donald Gradwell?

Well either way, it doesn't sound like you want to be prospecting and sales. If you wish to work directly for the company, I suggest you contact the carriers directly or check their website for job opportunities. Despite the economic down turns, I see job advertisings at the insurance carrier on a regular basis. Give that a go and see how you fair. Bonne Chance mon ami.

Thanks for your response! The chap that you mention - Donald Bradwell, is he the one who has come from the UK? If so, would you mind if I contacted him and if you wouldn't mind then do you have an email address for him?

I know I am asking a lot, I would like to develop a network and any help you can give would be hugely appreciated!

I definitely do not mind marketing and sales, just not cold calling without any form of introduction or qualifying.
