Newbie Needs Info

Hi everyone!

I'm new to this industry and have been looking for a career change as of late. I had a phone interview with a State Farm agent as a team member which will be followed up by a 1:1 interview next week. I know that I will be taking quite a pay cut as my background has been in the construction and oilfield for the last 15 years. Some of that time included working for myself, so I'm no stranger to selling. That being said this is entirely different animal. I have most if my bachelors degree finished and am still actively perusing it. The reason for a career switch has a lot to do with more time for my family as I have been working 100 hrs a week for quite some time now and it has taken a detrimental toll on my family. I'm looking for guidance, advice, and a general direction on what to expect and how to handle the challenges on this new journey. Any help will be greatly appreciated and I look forward to learning as much as I can about the insurance industry. Thank you all for taking time to read my post.

Sorry no one responded to your post. This may be too late. I am a State Farm agent. For someone with your background, work and life experience, the only reason you would go work for an existing agent would be to learn the business then eventually open your own agency. Which you will need at least $50,000 liquid cash to start. So if that's the path your on and you are good at sales. This could be a good move for you. Let me know if you have any specific questions.
