Yes they do. I do monthly. I also do thank you letters and b-day cards and annual reviews. Really good way to stay in contact with clients.
WHy not write your own newsletter?
Just make sure not that it is not boring and something they would want to read.
I'm using constantcontact.com for the agents that have email and sign up.
I write about things like droping your homephone to save money. I try and always put in some ideas to save money. I put some jokes in it. Just try and put in things you know they will read.
With constantcontact I track everything and can tell which ones they like and don't like and which links they click on.

Try readytogonewsletters.com They give you a decent newsletter that you can modify if you want. It follows some of Mark's advice, don't make it all about insurance, add things of general interest, etc.
They have some samples you can download and even a free trial you can use.
This is a non-paid recommendation/endorsement. They make it easy.

Usually my news letters are similar to my blog ideas. I've been thinking about intergrading the blog and news letter together.

It varies a bit, depending on if you want the email version or the print version, or both. Also, what lines you you want...
If you click the 'join now' link, they do have thier prices posted (without having to sign up or give any info). real estate newsletters | choose standard, bronze or silver membership
They have a few levels of service. The basic one is all you probably need, depending on how automated you want this.
