For NC agents, what carriers are you using to write stand-alone homeowners? We're down to 2 carriers and 1 is really not competitive at all so my options are really slim. We can't always write the package with our preferred carriers because the client may not qualify for the auto due to score/violations. I would like some suggestions of carriers you are able to place this business with, if there are any carriers left that will just write the home. Thanks!

Lititiz, ASI, UPCIC, NC Grange (I think), NCJUA, AMIG

Hope that helps for now, shoot me a PM if you want me to look at anyone in particular for help.

I just heard of Litiitiz for the first time today. Lost a customer to them today because they don't CTR...yet. I hate to lose anyone but this customer was a monthly, hour long conversation so it leaves me with more time to prospect. Oddly enough his brother is a retired SF agent so he understands a little bit about the insurance industry. I told him I KNEW I wold hear back from him next year or the next when this company realized they were not charging enough for the risk in NC.

AMIG is good for hard to place, out of the norm risks. VERY expensive. We also use Universal North America and their rates are good in some counties and not so great in others.

I contacted Lititiz they are not appointing any more agencies in our area (the rep said they were being flooded with appointment requests). I have NC Grange (currently my only real option) and Universal (they are WAY out of line as far as pricing in our area). I have AMIG but my appointment is just for mobile homes. I have Foremost for rental properties and mobile homes. It's kind of weird at this time I have more options for insuring mobile homes than a regular HO3!

Who is ASI? I've not heard of them.

Who is ASI? I've not heard of them.

Foremost only does vacants and tenant DP3s... I actually lost them because I never wrote with them.

ASI is like UPCIC but whereas UPCIC uses NO credit, ASI is STRONGLY credit driven. ASI looks at the age of the home and credit as determining factors for writing policies. What is really nice is that they don't count wind and hail claims against people (act of god claims, really). On the other hand, any other claim and then you have to submit to underwriting for approval. Like UPCIC they are also a little strict on the types of homes and they ONLY do HO3 and HO4 in NC, no HO8, DP1-3, HO6, or anything like that.

I like them- when they hit they are great on the rates. However, I don't use them a lot due to packaging the home and auto and I offer a lot of HE7 policies and ASI only does HO3.

You probably haven't heard about them because they came to NC in January of this year. They are well known in Florida though as a Florida company. As a result they have stricter underwriting than other companies AND they also are more forgiving on wind and hail since that is what 90% of Florida claims really are, ya know?

PM me if you want to talk about them.
