I keep reading that many of the top agents only spend 2-3 days in the field.. If that is all they want to work in the filed that is fine.. But most say they spend another 2-3 days doing the grunt work, making phone calls, scrubbing apps, etc. Some say they use appointment setters in order to maximize their time but I don't hear anybody talking about hiring or contracting secretarial help. It would seem that would be a more efficient use of resources..Almost anybody can be trained to scrub an app and handle the majority of phone calls..That could really free up an agents time, allowing them to spend another 1-2 days in the filed doing the things that make the money.. Opinions??

I think part of the reason for that structure is the desire not to be in the field more than that.
The other problem is to take on secretary, the most important task of all would be scheduling appointments, and that might not work out too well on their end. With a salaried employee he'd be harder to cut ties. Otherwise, if someone finds a good one, it'd probably be a GREAT idea. Anybody here hire a secretary?

To take an effective appointment setter and turn him/her into a secretary would be self defeating. You need to have people doing what they excel at doing.. Perhaps a part time retired administrative assistant that just wants to work a day or two per week? Or someone you could use for a pool of agents? Or, maybe a retired agent that wants something to do but is tired of the sales grind?

Years ago, I hired a college student to work 3 hours per day, 2-3 days per week to handle the majority of my detail work.. Of course, back then I had an office and she came in on those days... However, with technology available today, it could easily be done in their own home..

Travis has always trained our agents to have field days on Monday and Wednesday. If you haven't hit your minimum goal ($4,000 For most agents) then you also go out Thursday.

I think this works very well for an agent to write a lot of premium week after week without burning out.

Most agents are not work-a-holics. They want to make great money, have great hours and a great lifestyle.

I said in the beginning that if that was all an agent wanted to work in the filed I understand that.. But if an agent wanted to move onto another level of production, would it not make sense to hire the detail work done instead of taking field or prospecting time to do it himself.. To me, it would seem that would be even more profitable than hiring an appointment setter unless the agent just does not like to set appointments..

I draw the line at sitting in cat piss homes 3 days a week. Anything more than that and I'd go insane.

The other 2-3 days doing grunt work? They just say that. We sit at home on this forum or try to recruit agents so we don't have to go into the field anymore !!! Don't let anyone lie to you and tell you otherwise. At least the smart ones.....

Everyone should pay their dues and put in as much time as humanly possible to make this business work for them.

There are no guarantees for success, but a lot of the difficulties one faces in this business can be circumvented with good old fashioned work ethic.

While I agree with Scott in the long-term, there is nothing wrong "paying your dues" and working your ass of for the first few years.
