Kind of a basic question, but what is the Part B premium this year. I think it is still 96 for current but 110 for new enrollees or something like that. I think it is oddball this year due to no-inflation/cost increase thing .

Anyway. What is the correct understanding there?

Hold harmless clause keeps current beneficiaries at the $96 level because there was no increase in SS. New beneficiaries come in at the $110.

That was news to me. I've heard both premiums voiced, and I knew that some still had the $96.40... so I was confused as to where they were getting the $110.00 premium from. Well that's nice to know for the T65's... thanks

FYI, the "hold harmless clause" states that there can be no increase in Medicare rates if there is no Cost of Living(COLA) raise on peoples Social Security. But for new Medicare beneficiaries this doesn't apply. There are other circumstances as well. Low income people who receive Medicaid and Medicare(dual eligibles who have the part B premium paid for them by Medicaid), and High income people who make $85000 individually or $170000 jointly who currently pay a higher premium anyway, don't qualify.

The part B premium for 2010 is $110.50. There will probably be no COLA through 2011.
