PDP, Medicare, Part D

CMS specifically has stated that a F2F is not required to sell MA/PDP products.

The requirement may be imposed upon agents by the carriers.

I write MA plans online for many carriers and have for a number of years.

Its illegal to sell any medicare drug plan over the phone you kids should know that! CMS and all of the insurance companies have made it explicit that you have to write those plans in person. Now obviously CMS does not have the means to enforce this so they are now requiring the insurance companies to call and verify a certain percentage of all drug plan apps. I have gotten a number of emails from Coventry the past few days specifically reminding me of all this. Of course the way you get caught is if one of your customers gets a case of the crazies and starts a bunch of crap with medicare over their drug plan and they let it out of the bag that they bought the plan over the phone and boom your in trouble. Now what is the punishment for getting caught I dont know. It might not be that big of a deal to get caught but why break rules and laws just to get a lousy 50 dollar commission? This is all just another good reason why not to mess with medicare drug plans at all. I have not messed with those drug plans at all this current enrollment period and Im finding November and December to be oh so nice! Good riddance to the drug plans and the lousy insurance companies pedaling them.:1arghh:

You are so wrong, Mr. Expert!!!!:D

Yoda,
Have you done certification for any MAPD or PDP carriers?
If not, your opinion means zilch.

Er uh no sir I have not recertified for 2010. You see thats part of the beauty of not selling that crap is you dont have to fool around with that yearly test crap anymore. But just out of curiosity I did check around a little bit today when I had a moment on the subject of this thread. First I called my state dept of insurance office and asked them if there was any rules against selling a drug plan over the phone and mailing the client the application. Now your not going to believe this but they didnt know. They even asked around the dept of insurance office and nobody knew and I was told to call Ship. I never got around to calling ship but I did call Coventry and after talking to 3 different people and jacked around their phone system I was finally told that yes you could sell over the phonee and mail the customer the application. So therefore I apologize to all the idiots that I called idiots when I told them it was against the law to sell drug plans over the phone. I shall look into this a little more and get back to you dipshits on what I found. Sorry!:1laugh:

While I'm not happy with all the crap CMS requires it is the mass confusion the AEP creates that has brought us dozens of clients already this season. They come for PDP assistance and leave with me being their MedSupp agent. Fish in a barrel.
