Please Help..Basic Information Needed??

I am new to this forum and have some general questions.

I have a job interviewing with a company that deals with all kinds of insurance and want to get some answers to a couple questions before going to my interview.

#1) I understand that I must get a license before selling any kind of insurance. Who pays for the license? The company that hires me or do I have to pay of it??

#2) Who and how do I get paid after I sell insurance? Does the company pay me? If so, is it a salary or commission?

#3) Does any money have to come out of my pocket to get started selling insurance??

Please help me understand the process. Thank you for any responses.

Update: I had a suggestion to add the company I am interviewing with and maybe someone can give me more detail. So, I guess I can try that and see what happens.

I am interviewing with Alpha Financial Group LLC. I have tried to research the company online, but have found that there is no web site for one in Atlanta and the nearest one to me is in Stone Mountian, but still no website. So, that is why I am here asking questions. If anyone knows this company that would be fantastic. I like to have knowledge about a company before I walk into an interview. I applied for this job through the GDOL (dept of labor) and there was little information on the ad. Hope this new information will help?? Thanks.

Unfortunately, I think the answer to all of your questions is a resounding "it depends."

Does your company pay licensing fees? I don't think many do, but I could be wrong.

Who pays you and how do you get paid? Depends again wholly on the company - you could get a base salary and partial commission, or you could get full commission, or you could get...hell, free blimp rides, whatever they're offering.

Money out of pocket? For me, the initial start-up costs were licensing, E&O, and leads. Your company may or may not take care of that - impossible to say without knowing where you're headed.

I imagine that was less than helpful, but insurance jobs come in all shapes and sizes.

I think if you gave more specific information as what company and position you would get a bit more information. As stated before it could be anything, but if you said which company then maybe an agent that works with that company could give you a better idea how how that company usually compensates. But even then it still could depend on other things.

Usually you will have to pay for your own license but there are companies that will help pay or pay for it.

Most pay salary but some offer base + salary specially starting out.

Some companies provide you with leads and some you have to purchase.

BTW welcome to the forum.

Don't forget the basic set-up in your inteview which is that you are there to interview them too and to have them answer the questions you are asking.

Don't go in with the posture that there is an answer and you need to find out in advance so that you wont look stupid. Approach it with the idea that there are a a couple dozen basic arrangements and you want them to explain to you how it works there.

Also, dont forget other basic questions such as how you will be trained, how prospecting/leads if any normally works there, what are the production goals you need to meet along the way in order to stay, how many of their recent hires have remained and what are they making and can you speak with them. etc, etc.
