Hello,

Does anyone know if a PNC broker who only does PNC would agree to work with a life/health agency start up? I'm starting a life/health agency first bcs getting pnc appointed being a newbie is tough, does anyone know if this arrangement is common?

THanks!

I dont' even think Smart Choice or SIAA would get you appointed direct since you are brand new. You may have to use Superior Access or Insurance Noodle to have access to preferred markets but you won't have binding authority.

oh wow thanks! i just looked up insurance noodle and superior access. do u have experience working with them? this looks like exactly what ive been looking for. is this how new agents usually start in order to get direct pnc appts?

Well if you have 0 experience it may be the only way to start. You need 3 years of experience normally to get appointed directly even through a cluster for the national preferred carriers.

Yes, I used superior access for a few months and hated it. I think you can bind personal lines the same day now though. Try to build up your book then get direct appointments once you have premium with the carriers.

It's difficult starting out as an IA you may want to consider working under an agency until you have experience.

Most P&C agents I know do life and health as well. Some don't do it well, but they still do it.

Captive agents tend to have life production requirements.

You will find some P&C agents who will let you work their book of business or give you an occasional referral. You just have to look till you find them. You then need to figure out what the deal is that will make it work for them (and you).

For life and health, this needs to be just one part of a multi-part marketing plan. If the agent thinks you are eventually going to start selling P&C, odds are, they will not work with you.

From the thread title I thought this had to do with agents for PNC bank. Doesn't the O/P have and ampersand on his keyboard? Wasted another few precious minutes on thus thread!
