Hello,

I've recently had two calls this month for pole barn insurance. Does anyone know a carrier in WA that insures them?
Thanks in advance! =)

If the pole barn is on as property with a residence & it isn't used for any business or farm or commercial operations, it should be able to be insured on the Home insurance policy merely by increasing the other structures coverage.

If the pole building is on vacant land without a residence & no business or farm or commercial operations in it, you can many times add an endorsement to a home owners policy to cover the other structures off premises

If it is being used for business or farm or commercial operations at all (even storing a business work truck, trailer, etc, the pole building should be insured as a building on the commercial insurance policy or farm policy

Anyone have a carrier for stand alone? =) I appreciate above answer, but the carrier they are with doesn't cover the pole barn enough due to low coverage a and cannot increase it. I need a stand alone carrier.

Hard to believe that the primary carrier won't write a monoline fire policy.

What is it that's making this so complicated?

What is the building being used for?

You may have to go to the E&S brokers.

Something doesn't sound right. Sounds like they need to change carriers or change whatever is the issue with the condition or use of the pole building. A pole building is really just a detached garage or large shed unless something it is being used for redefines it

Based upon your second statement, it seems like this is a homeowners or farmowners policy and the current insurer has limitations on increasing Coverage B. It seems that those type of insurers are smaller/local/regional and can be "stuck" in their ways. I would recommend shopping around and finding an insurer that has flexibility with Coverage B, other structures. If this is a farmowners policy, it may take more effort to find a good insurer and it may not be a national brand.
