"Preventive Services Coverage" Mandate Effective 9/23/2010.

I think is we stopped the partisan BS (which is near impossible) we could combine aspects of single payor and private health care.

I don't know what it would look like. Maybe it would be that every citizen has catastrophic coverage and private plans could fill the gaps.

I do think we're intelligent enough to look at what works and what doesn't work with our current system and compare that to the positive and negative aspects of what other counties are doing.

I have yet to see that debate.

That is what I would favor.

Combining the best of each systems to form our own.

A safety net for all, with private insurance filling the gaps.

Sounds simple enough so what am I missing? (other than the partisan BS)

The problem is perfection. The far right and the far left won't have anything to do with a proposal that in their eyes isn't perfect.

Perfection for the far right is "If you get sick - die quickly." Perfection for the far left is "Free everything for everyone."

There's room in the middle which we're not discussing. We also seem to be unwilling to discuss pricing transparency and personal choices regarding health.

Nothing will work, even middle ground, unless those two issues are solved. Our government apparently also hasn't figured out that a system that rewards good health does better than a system that punishes poor health.

Let's start with one idea - tax incentives or other monetary incentives for people to lose weight. I'd be willing to bet that for every $1,000 spent on an incentive program to get people to the proper BMI it would save $10,000 in future health costs.

1) Provide a buy in to Medicare or Medicaid for high risk and low income.

2) Require everyone to have catastrophic coverage with entry points of $10,000 up to $25,000

This will solve as many problems as Obamacrap is supposed to and not cost anywhere near as much nor disrupt the system.

I'd like that, if it came along with a whole lot of deregulation, at least for the plans that go below the mandated catastrophic. Start with giving individual and group the same tax treatment.

If you want to make health insurance affordable, allow carriers to sell plans that do not have to meet state mandates. That alone would drop the premium by 30% in most states and in GI states would cut the premium in half or more.
