Previous Hail Damage

I bought a new hail damaged vehicle at a discount from a dealership. I don't believe I ever signed anything stating it did. The autocheck/carfax both come up clean.

The vehicle needed a new hood, side fender, and the top of the truck. I replaced everything but the top of the truck with OEM items off craigslist. Six months and haven't had an issue.

I just finished a trip to Minnesota and was hailed on in almost the exact same spots. However, the back fender has a few dings along with the front door.

Driving back home today and I need to file a claim. Does my insurance company know

I had previous hail damage on the car if carfax/autocheck came back clean? The reason I worry, it that I have no way of proving I replaced the items, other than trying to get a hold of the two people I bought the items from on craigslist.

What a mess, any help would be appreciated.

My advice would be to just be honest with your appraiser when they inspect your vehicle. Most likely from what you stated there is no record of the prior hail. Also, there is usually no way to confirm if hail is old or new.

As long as the insurance company can confirm the current storm/loss is valid you should be covered. If you tell the adjuster it had prior hail that you repaired on you own except the roof the adjuster will most likely believe you since you are not trying to hide anything. There may be depreciation on the roof if the adjuster can determine old from new damages, but if they blend together most likely they will handle all damages as a new loss.

There is a small chance based on your specific adjuster they may refer your case to SIU for further investigation, but if you are telling the truth the should be no worries.

This question is posed to our P&C pros. What is an owners obligation legally to disclose in this case? Do you advise full disclosure or simplying filing a claim and provided information as needed?

The chances are good they won't know as it isn't showing up so previous owner probably fixed it with out going through insurance, however as the saying goes honesty is the best policy and as you are covered it shouldn't be an issue!

Good luck! Had some hail damage myself recently and it's not a happy experience!
