Problem on the horizon for some?

I have said it before and I will say it again...

Watch AARP. AARP said they endorse MA plans only at 100% of Medicare's rate, nothing more.

MA plans will cut back down to 100%. PFFS plans will shrink back down to maybe 1/2 of the counties they are in now, HMO and PPO plans will go up in cost, and it will be business as usual.

MA plans survived prior to PFFS plans, and they will continue to do so.

AARP has a lot of infulence in government, and if they are making money off MA plans, they will keep endorcing them.

When I started selling Medicare HMO plans, they were capitated at 95% of Medicare and had zero premium, drug coverage (without extra funding of Part D), and typically low or zero copays for hospital. Now they receive 112% or more.

PFFS plans were promoted by Medicare because people in rural areas did not have access to MA plans because of network limitations.

Here's my prediction, Obama cuts the funding to 100% and we lose PFFS and the pricing outside of the major cities for plans skyrockets. But then, the "poor" people living in outlying areas won't have equal access. So, Medicare will determine that it's the commissions paid that are keeping carriers from offering plans.

So, the government will once again subsidize plans so that everyone can be equal. Since CMS will run the show even more than they do today, agent's will be cut out of the mix. And don't forget, standardized plans.

Anyone else get this feeling?

Rick

I see where you are coming from, but I will add this...

Since AARP now has a broker sales force out there, they will have some room for brokers.

PFFS rural plans will get rural plan funding (like the rural Dr offices get now).

PFFS plans in the metros will go to Regional PPO plans, but in some markets will pull out.

Let's not forget that Obama wants to expand welfare, which will put more seniors on Medicaid.

I think this is an over-reaction. Many of us know of agents that have gotten in Dutch with CMS, and in my case, the ones that I know have certainly deserved it.

Listen, friend. A little "free" advice... (worth every penny)... do your due diligence and don't worry. As my grandmother used to say, "only the guilty run and hide". If you do your dead level best, your conscience will not convict you. That's not to say that somebody somewhere is not going to be falsely accused.... lightning strikes the innocent as well as the guilty, usually because they are in the wrong place at the wrong time. That's life.
In theory this is correct, however in reality, the good guys do not always win. I myself have been suspended for two months now while they investigated a complaint. What was the complaint? the lady I enrolled, who did sign the hard copy application AND the online application making about 8 signatures in all called the insurance company and said she did not wish to enroll. Now tell me, if a person signs in all the places, is given the spill about the company, when her policy goes into effect etc etc don't you think she knows she is enrolling in the plan? She wasn't even elderly, she was however an indigent, who had nothing to lose, the policy was free for her! Oh excuse me, a no plan premium policy. Geesh. That's a whole nother problem in itself - the specific lingo or problems on the horizon. I lost $1,000's and $1,000's of dollars while they were investigating this complaint. Completely shut down and out of work as I was not certified with any other med adv company and had not been working the annuity business as I was doing fine with med adv program. The complaint was totally unjustified and I lost out on new commissions AND all previous commissions have been on hold for months. How difficult is it for a person to call up the company and disenroll? two minutes? geesh, if she decided not to enroll all she had to do was call me, but instead CMS is REQUESTING clients call them to complain. Guess who's going to be targeted now? Do you know how easy it is to get another part of the insurance business up and running profitably? It is not. So I stand by my previous comment, be prepared to possibly go down and also it would not hurt to bring in other income so if you get a complaint against you, warranted or not, you will not be without an income. Neither the insurance company or CMS is concerned about your financial well being or what they might do to your reputation. Seniors have everyone on their side, This same type of thing happened to me the first year I was in the business with a complaint from someone who twisted my words. I lost 1000's of dollars during a long suspension time while they were investigating, as his complaint was taken seriously, it was absolutely ridiculous to do so though as EVERYONE who spoke to him realized he was totally cranky and irrational and so I was not found at fault. It should have only taken less than a week, however that investigation also took months. I think agents need a union as we need someone to protect our rights also. I enjoy helping people immensely and I do everything I can to help them to understand the program and to also not invade their space, CMS and insurance companies are not protecting good agents, they are lumping us all together with those with bad intentions. Beware.
