Producers to Play Diminished Role in Exchanges

So says a couple of yahoos purporting to represent consumers.

Umm, note to yahoos: Come spend half a day in our offices and listen in as people try and "navigate" the health care system without professional assistance. It's laughable. And so are you.

On a more hopeful note, they are sounding like non-exchange plans should be identically priced to exchange plans. That being the case, I guess you only would buy an exchange plan to get the subsidy, right?

I can see my new marketing slogan already:

My agency can only help you if you make more than $90,000 a year. If you make less than that, I'll need to charge you my regular consulting fee of $165 per hour, 3 hour minimum; plus, you must agree to buy a minimum $1,000,000 life policy and a couple of supplement health plans.

I like that, but I wonder how long it would take for HHS or some other organization created by PPACA to find some way to penalize you for taking money from customers who are too poor and need the subsidy.

On a different note, there was an article today that had something along the lines of how much of an "F You!" the state governments could play if they require the navigators to be licensed in their state prior to assisting consumers. That would be classic.

What's really goofy is that in 2014, a family of four with less than $31,000 of annual income will qualify for Medicaid. Their health insurance cost will be $zero$.

I wonder if an insurance company will compensate us for selling their exchange policy, or will we only get a small one-time fee from the government?

I think that would be the same article I linked to. Did you check it out? I was going for over the top sensationalism in the title of the thread.

I think the upper middle class will be the market place for Individual outside the exchange.

My questions from day on the exchange and tax subsidies is
Will the insured have to pay the premium and then get the tax credit at the end of the year?
Of does the subsidies reduce the premium for the insured?

I believe it is that:

"Or do the subsidies reduce the premium for the insured?

From what I understand, it's pay the premium up-front and get the credit at the end of the year. Which means that a) people will still have to pay for the insurance before getting the subsidy/refund and b) that the government essentially gets a tax-free loan on your money.

Congrats, American public - you're getting screwed while you're getting screwed!

I can't speak to what might happen...But in Maine when Dirigo first started you had to pay the full premium and then the next month you recieved the subsidy on the states EBT card had to cash it out deposit it in checking and pay the full premium the next month...Now they finally figured out that you pay the Dirigo Health Agency and they forward the full premium from your check plus the subsidy.
