Property and casualty insurance

Good afternoon,
Many years ago I was selling life, health, accidental insurance. After Obama care I got out of selling. Fast forward I've been an independent claims adjuster now for ten years and now I'm tired of traveling. I've maintained my P&C, life and health licenses.

My question, would anyone recommend being an agent again? Would you be a captive agent with a franchise or build an independent agency? If I remember correctly, its hard to get appointed with p&c carriers, so how would suggest I get appointed and up and running.

Thank you in advance...

I am a commercial P&C independent agent, and I would recommend it. I would not recommend selling personal lines P&C, there isn't nearly as much money in it, and there will be even less several years from now once you've built your book, and will be even higher turnover.

I am happy being an independent agent, and not an agency owner. I don't want the stress, and I built it up to the point I only have to work a few hours a day now. Frankly, I could work even less, but I don't know what to do with all the free time.

I think you will find a lot of agents on here that will are likely to tell you that being an Independent Agent is the way to go (myself included.)

Commercial, Personal Lines? The good news is that its not necessarily something that needs to be decided when you start out. Trust me the first 100 policies that you can sell you will sell regardless of what type they are, in general.

Getting appointed technically is still as difficult as ever. But the good news is that with some money and right MGA you can easily do this.

You might want to start by partnering with an experienced agent first before heading out on your own.
