Prospecting Question

So since I am already working with AFLAC, I should do as good as I can and I think I need to organize my prospecting a little and maybe get good at it : -P..

I asked both the regional coordinator and my trainer what are good methods for prospecting, one told me to map everything out and research the business as much as possible and the other told me to go into every place I see.

Would it be more beneficial to do research or should I just walk into every place I see?

The organized route sounds better but then again will it do any good? I have been going kind of both ways on this so far and i havent gotten a bite yet (i have been doing this a little over a month)

As always any advise is really appreciated. I have learned a lot from reading these threads so far

Personally, I wouldn't announce on a public forum that you go both ways............
But hey, that's just me.

hey it is easier to announce it on a forum then just walk up and say "hey i go both ways, you?"

Best laugh I have had today

And just what would you research about the business?

Research is for analysts, job seekers and for sales people in very specialized fields. Aflac and worksite benefits is anything but specialized.

If you are going to research anything, research how big the employees' paychecks are, and how much is in their bank account. That might let you know if they will pay for more insurance.

Personally, I'd never mention Aflac to a prospect, but only to clients. Find something else to lead with, life, health, P&C, anything but Aflac and Colonial.

Thank you for the advise. After what a lot of people are saying I am pretty sure I will go into a different line of business in insurance. For now I think I am going to try to use what I have to whatever advantage I can and gain as much sales and insurance experience as I can. I am assuming I wont be getting rich or close to it anytime soon. But maybe working for these 2 places is a starting point so I dont bite off more then I can chew, which I am realizing I already have.

I am determined though and I know I can do this if I apply myself

@ Jess..... please slow it down.
I think all the "job offers" and opportunities have you "considering" too many rods for fishing all at once.

Pick one, catch some fish ALL the rods work, sweetheart...doesn't matter.

Fiberglass, carbon fiber, graphite or bamboo you'll catch fish but please trust me, commit to a rod and do not shop anymore till have caught enough catfish to move on to blue whales.:err:.

You eat an Elephant one bite at a time, but you gotta decide to use a spoon, a fork or your hands either way the meat won't get in your mouth till you decide which tool to use, at least for the few bites pick a tool and don't consider the others till you exhaust one.

Best of Luck:1smile:

Thanks, you are right haha and I have figured it out after talking to the people on here that I am pretty much trying to do to many things I am unclear about at one time. I am slowing it down and focusing on 1 thing at a time

Why not ask your manager if you can shadow one of their top producers for a day so you can see what he/she does? There's no need to do things exactly the same but you'll get a good idea of where to start and what to say.

I say walk in without the research. So many people waste so much time organizing they don't have time to sell. Time in front of prospects is much more valuable than in front of a computer looking up a company's background.
