I have a lady that is 57 that will be on Medicare A & B starting July 1st. She is coming off A group COBRA coverage as well. She already receives her disability SS money in the mail.

Is she a GI with any company because she will loose her group coverage? If so what plans (the normal or more)

I know BCBS of IL will take her and price it at a 80 +. I see the others have prices for open enrollment too.

Thank you

If she qualifies for GI it will be A,B,C or F that you can write her within 63 days of her termination from her COBRA. That is a separate issue from open enrollment, which only occurs 6 months before and after her 65th birthday.

There is no Med Supp open enrollment for new to Medicare enrollees under 65, only AT age 65. That being said, I know she would be guaranteed issue for underage Major Medical, but not sure if the GI applies to Med Supps for underage?

I can't believe you can write a disability Med Supp for that price in ANY state. You might want to double check that. I only write MAs here in TN because the price is so high for the disabled Med Supps.

Yea, I know she will be issued a BCBS.

I think she will be able to getthrough other companies underwriting, I just want to get her the best price. It does cost a lot, but major med is more and she is going to get Parts A and B with medicare

I believe he was stating that the premium is the same as the age 80+ folks...not $80

There is NO federal mandate to insurance companies to issue a medicare supplement on a GI basis to under 65 medicare enrollees. It is up to the states.

Illinois does have a GI of plans A B C F...and lucky for you they pay full commissions on it, too.

You believe that a company will voluntarily issue a policy to someone on Medicare disability? Would you?

I've yet to see someone under 65 on Medicare qualify medically for a supplement. But maybe you have the golden ticket!

Good luck.

I am not looking for a major med. I was looking for a med sup. I called BCBS and they would be issued a plan F at the 80 + rate.

I am checking because IL had in the house a bill that said if a person came off of group or COBRA to Medicare part A and B they where a GI in the open enrollment. I am not sure if this past. That is the heart of the question.
Thanks

She's not being underwritten. She's being issued as new to Medicare on a GI basis. Other carriers should do the same, just check for rates.

Once she is out of the GI window, she will not be underwritten.
