Question for ACT Users

I have looked at a lot of CRM systems and for what I do and want to do going forward, ACT seems to be the best fit. I am strongly considering purchasing ACT 2011 but before I do this I'd like your thoughts. (although ACT 2010 is tempting because it can be had for a much cheaper price)

A few months back, I downloaded the 30 day trial of ACT 2010 and my Outlook did not look favorably upon having ACT as a neighbor on my hard drive. I could not receive nor send emails. When I removed all of ACT from my hard drive - PRESTO - Outlook worked fine again.

Back when I did this my agency still had me on Outlook 2002. Since then I have upgraded to Outlook 2007. My current operating system is XP.

Have others had a similar experience or am I the unlucky unique one? Would the upgrade to Outlook 2007 I've done conceivably make a difference?

Thanx for any replies!

Outlook mail is very unstable. I would go several versions of act back. Check eBay. Dirt cheap.

You are in a losing battle with any Microsoft email program.

I use ACT 2010 for financial advisers. When I first installed it I had the same problem. We figured out that ACT would not work with office 2010. I have since downgraded outlook to 2007 and can send emails just fine. I still use word and excel but 2010 but they do not work with ACT.

I did find out the new version of ACT 2011 will work with offfice 2010 and a new version for advisers will be out spring of next year.

I don't purposely use Outlook at all but some e-mail links default to it and it works fine.
ACT 2010 is hugely improved over 2009 or previous. I haven't tried 2011.

I use to use I-Relay, went back to Act! The main feature I like, can customize however you want with no restrictions. The downside, have to back it up daily and no online access.

I use an older version (2008?), does what I need it to do. Think about it this way, I need something to tell me when to call someone or to complete a task and to keep notes organized. It doesn't take much to do this, no need to pay for the new version.

I also went from ACT to I-Relay and back to ACT 6-months later. I liked a lot about i-relay. But when I couldn't modify the layout and add the fields I track where they need to be I had to give up on it.

I think you will find ACT 2010 to be much faster and less buggy than 2008. Hopefully 2011 will be even better yet.

If not Outlook, what are you using for email? Do you send email from within a contact record?

I have just never understood Outlook at all. I've always used Yahoo mail. It's around $35 a year and has always done everything I need.
