Rental Coverage in Not At Fault Accident

Hi All,
I searched for similar issues that have been covered but couldn't quite find my situation here.

I was recently (on Thanksgiving of all days!) involved in an accident where the other driver was at fault (fell asleep and swerved into my vehicle). I put in a claim immediately that day and had to pick up a rental the next day as I need transportation for work. I did not hear from my claims representative until the following Monday where he started the process of getting the damage assessed and the rental was put under a direct bill. My claim representative told me that the damages and rental would be paid by them and they would recoup through the at-fault driver's insurance company. Almost a week and a half then went by where the body shop and insurance company went back and forth over additional damages discovered during tear-down and all of a sudden I have 10 days of coverage left in my rental with a repair that they estimate will take 18 days to 1 month (not counting holidays coming up and such).

My question is, why am I responsible for paying for the remainder of the days I need the rental for when the other driver was at fault? I do have 30/900 coverage for rentals but my insurance company spent 11 of those days either not open or going back and forth with the body shop over additional repairs. Is there anything I could have done initially to avoid this?

Thank you for any advice you can give me!

The answer is simple. YOU are "responsible" for ANY bills you incur. You pay the bill for whatever days your insurance doesn't cover and seek reimbursement from the at-fault driver's insurance company.

Whatever delayed the claim process is nobody's fault. S--t happens.

Thanks adjusterjack! Last question - should I seek reimbursement right away or wait until I have the final bill for the rental?

You can submit your bills at any time but chances are that they won't be paid until the claim is closed
