Replacement Cost Estimators---

every single one of my carriers has their own built into the quote system, never heard of anyone needing to get one on their own.....

I just purchased the Xactimate study guide booklet with a CD that has the software; however, it's only good for 30 days. Then I think you have to purchase it. A friend of mine informed me that the software with the 5 basic steps runs around $1,500. Is this a correct fee for the software? I feel this is a little steep plus, I think you have to pay a monthly fee.

Why do you want to spend $1500 on that. Are you an insurance broker?:goofy::no::goofy:

Yes, Xactimate costs $1,500/year for the basic service. You cannot purchase Xactimate, only rent it. It is not an inexpensive program, but it is the gold standard on the claims side of the industry. Part of the reason for the annual cost is the monthly updating of price lists by area, which ensures that you have accurate pricing for labor and materials.

Can an independent claim adjuster purchase this software?
As stated above, you can pay the annual fee and use the software, it is not available for outright purchase. That said, I own an adjusting firm that employs a number of IA's, and I make all of them use Xactimate. I won't even contract the IA if they do not have an active subscription, as a number of our clients send claim assignments through Xactimate using a system called XactAnalysis.
