Sam: Courteous Week Question...

Do you mean "get a loan?"

Or do you mean "get along?"

If you mean the latter, it's probably because the culture here has never (perhaps until now) sought to foster a community of support and mutual respect.

Most insurance agents are aggressive by nature (the timid don't survive for long in this biz.) Couple that with the fact that many agents have poor social skills and/or little experience dealing with those outside of their own peer group and the result is a venue where people people exhibit their own xenophobia.

Indeed, the culture here is one of "You can agree with me, or you can be wrong."

Finally, the vast majority of agents here are "alpha" males from a predominately white, lower-class, lesser educated demographic. Men here don't think "I understand what you say but I respectfully disagree" but instead think "You're an $#@!#" because that is what "works" in their communities and social and political and economic peer groups (except when they are in church on Sunday.... where everyone is courteous to everyone else!)

Obviously, we have a lot of experts on this Forum. Once a month we self indulging pontificating so called experts meet at an undisclosed location for our round table discussions.

Unfortunately, due to Barry's Problem (BP) we have had to cancel our Gulf Shores location. Frank has generously offered his critter shed as an alternative meeting location, which frankly stinks. Since retread will not be available, Mr. T has offered to take his place as our official expert ass kicker!

I think you're painting with a broad brush, but hopefully you're at least acknowledging that you could easily be described the same way.
