Does an insurance carrier have the responsibility to protect the identity of the writing agent, if inquired by other than the actual client?

Other words, can I just call up an insurance carrier and say "Who is the agent for a certain client?

Let me know the policy or guidelines on this or would this be a violation/breech of contract against the insurance carrier?

Thanks Insurance Peeps!!

I can't say for sure, but I would think since agents are public representatives for companies that there would be no confidentiality issue there. Now, if someone called and asked for names of all your clients they would not be permitted to disclose it.

It is a private contract between the insured and the carrier and the elements of the contract, including the writing agent, are none of your business or anyone else's, nor can the carrier disclose that a policy even exists or confirm or deny if you think one does or even if you have seen the policy.
