Hello,

So, I have spent the last couple of weeks studying this website as well as other resources. AND:

It seems that it is extremely difficult to start out in P&C and be independant. All the resources and training seem to lead to and support starting with H&L. Am I missing something?

Thanks,

Matt

virtually NO Independant carrier will put on a newbie P&C agent, usually you have to go captive for a couple of years.

Oh not true. You need to find yourself a ga to work through. Being newly licensed most p&c carriers will not go direct with you. Find a good GA, get some needed training and experience and move forward. What state are u in?? I have a couple of ga's I may be able to point u 2. feel free to call me 630-287-1853 or email me [email protected] Dan

I would never sign up as a primary wiht a GA that I dont have binding authority with or that I dont own my Book.......

I agree! However, I can't find anyone in P&C that gives a new agent:

1. Book of business ownership
2. Binding Authority
3. Being the agent of record

I have looked at Smartchoice, Insurance Noodle, SIAA and Superior Access. I could definitley be wrong but it doesn't seem that any of these offer all three of the perks listed above.

Anyone know of a GA/MGA that offers these perks to the agent?

Thanks,

Matt

There is a reason for that, NONE of these companies will train you, so basically you dont know what you are doing in insurance, thats generally why you need to go captive for 3-5 years as the captives will train you, then you can break off and go IA. Or you can try and be a producer under an IA, and then you should be able to buy your book of business from that agent and start IA.
