I grew up with in walking distance from the San Joaquin River. BB gun wars were a regular as young kids.

I always say my first job was working on a farm, bailing hay and straw for $2.50 an hour. I was 11 years old.

My first business was trapping and selling muskrat pelts when I was in second grade, which I guess made me about 8 years old.

I used to get $1.00/pelt. The guy who bought them from me would pay $2.00 if I delivered the pelt only. After trying to skin one of them critters once, I thought taking the $1 cut was worth it. I lived between two creeks and the area was crawling with muskrats.

Haven't seen one in years though.

Same as pheasants.

Times, they are a changin'.

Yup.

Learn to swim by not drowning.
Collecting soda bottles to buy 22 shells. They would not sell us a beer, but ammo, no problem.
Leave the house in the morning come back in the dark.
No cell phones

When I was a kid, they would sell us cigarettes with no problem. One corner grocer would keep a pack of Wings open and sell them to us 2 for a nickel.
