I think the SS# is just an excuse. I don't think the social security number is the real issue most of the time. She may be skeptical of you the agent or the product...
Another thing I do is if she says my son said ".... yada, yada"... I simply look at her with a very caring look on my face and say.... "I'm sorry Mildred. I did not realize that your son helps you with your decisions. What is his cell phone number and I will call and talk to him."
A lot of time they will perk up and say (No, I make my own decisions) you have threatened there independence.
But IMO, I think she in not sold on it yet. SS # is an easy out for her.
