STAT Report on United Health Group

There is also a yearly enrollment period only for Medicare Advantage (MA) and Medicare Advantage prescription drug (MAPD) plan members, the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (MA OEP) . This takes place from Jan. 1 to March 31 every year. You may switch, drop or make changes to your Part D plan during this time. Any changes you make will take effect the first day of the following month after your current plan processes your request.

This seems like anyone can change from one PDP to another. What am I missing?

OEP is for MA plans and not stand alone drug cards. I'm assuming your client is on a supplement with a drug card.

Take a look at this chart. The very 1st paragraph explains it better than I can.

Yeah, whoever wrote that is wrong.

But can you drop mapd entirely and return to OM durin OEP? The normal way to do that during IEP is just to select a PDP. I guess during IEP one can also drop MAPD by calling Medicare and then you could unwisely not sign up for PDP I suppose. Anyway perhaps they can choose a part D plan during OE to get out of MAPD. That's not what that quote says, but maybe it's what they were trying to say.

Yes you can.. during OEP you can do the following:

Change from one MA(PD) to a different MA(PD)
Drop MA(PD) to go back to OG Medicare AND enroll in a PDP
