As I go through my news feeds every morning, I'm starting to see this trend; states coming up with plans to charge speeders while not reporting it to the insurance company - no court, no points. Why? They're citing that as auto rates increase people are less likely to be able to afford auto insurance.

However, looking deeper into SC, they are looking to charge drivers $150 for what would have been a $10 to $25 which is an obvious money grab.

Since when is a speeding ticket $10-$25? Heck thats the price of a parking ticket.

CO has this as well. I myself just got a lovely "performance award" via one of the photo speed traps. The mailman brought me the good news...
Option A: Send us $80 in the next 5 days and no points.

Option B: Come to traffic court and we'll see what happens.

The check cleared the other day.

Same with Maryland regarding speed camera tickets. Mail your payment and nothing gets reported or show up in court, roll the dice and risk getting points.

Maine ran a special trial run of camera tickets...Last I heard they never changed the law making it legal to fine people based on a photo...I know they had like seven cameras in Lewiston at one time last I knew not a single one remains.
