I wrote my own drip email program, but before I did that I used verticalresponse.com.
I used to use Constant Contact. I was spending $30 a month... and was always having composition or sending or delivery problems with them.
For the past year I've been using Dada Mail to send my newsletter. This is not a service... it is software you install on your server (or host) and mail is sent from there... thus you bypass your local ISP connection. (Of course your host may have rules about sending email out of their SMTP servers... such as quantity or frequency, so check with them. I rent a dedicated server at Pair Networks and they are liberal about outgoing mail.... but Pair is not cheap by any means!)
Dada Mail is a PITA to install but if you follow their directions you have a chance of getting it done. It surely does not have all the whistles and bells of a Constant Contact but it is has most of what I need... and its FREE!
There are a ton of free HTML newsletter templates out there (Google for them.) I found one I liked and modified a bit.
I used to send out my newsletter via Dada in HTML embedded format. I got too many rejections (lots of servers don't like HTML mail.) I then put my newsletter on my site and just sent a plain-text link to it and now everything goes through... no problems.
I'm looking at switching to phpList which is another popular free bulk email system you can install. Anyone tried this one?
