Hi guys, I"m new to this forum. This might be a repeated question but has anyone in the Los Angeles county had any success in COLD CALLING off the white pages. A ball park ratio would be greatly appreciated. My current lead provider is InsureMe. Haven't had that much success with that so i was looking for some more options in relation to generating leads. Any input would be useful, thank you.

Ok, so you post this in the auto insurance thread, I'm going to assume you are asking about cold calling residential numbers out of the white pages to sell them auto insurance?

There might be someone out there who has had some level success doing that, but it's not to be advised at all.

You be better off selling other lines of P & C insurance b2b than trying to do that.

Less than 10% of residential numbers are available to you. What kind of intellect does it take to NOT put your number on the DNC list? Where do you think these people live? Probably not Beverly Hills or dare I say it, Encino?

The people who are not on the DNC list probably are lower income, elderly, broke, etc. So good luck.

i appreciate all the replies, i mainly sell personal lines so b2b wouldn't be very helpful to me right now. Internet lead system can't be the only way to make it in the auto insurance business for personal line. someone once told me that (work of mouth) is the best way to market. Some say that passing out flyers to market yourself would be good but we have restrictions for that here. what other ways can there be?

There are no restrictions from walking into a business and leaving a flyer. The worst that happens is it will be roundfiled before anyone sees it.

Internet leads suck because there is no such thing as an honest lead company (my opinion so don't sue). There is no point calling into homes because of the DNC list.

Costs very little to make the rounds of strip malls passing out flyers. You could also consider door hangers. I have a friend in San Diego that is in that business and it's really pretty cost effective.

hey Rick thanks for letting me know. i just wanna make sure that i try everything that i can. so basically another way to generate my own leads are to market myself. seems almost like a waiting game but i guess thats the only way to go. since people are only going to buy insurance when they feel like it, i would have to wait. how do big brand companies do it? even though they are well known, i believe all agents have the same problems.

Thanks Rick, I'll try these techniques. people are just going to buy insurance only when they are ready to right? all we can do is wait. and spend lots of time marketing.

Rick if it wasn't for the occasional telemarketing call my landline wouldn't be used at all :) I'd drop it but my DSL is tied to it and the no one offers as good a service without some other type of bundle.

Also as a salesperson who does call some people residentially I think it would be hypocritical to be listed on the DNC.

I don't disagree. I'm opposed to governement programs including Medicare, yet I sell supps and MA plans.
