As a former general contractor turned insurance agent I can tell you that with the exception of Hartford, HCC and CNA are generally set up for small time bonds, less than $250k. Hartford is a good company, but I can tell you Travelers is by far the best bonding company out there for a couple reasons. One, they tend to offer greater bonding (that means your clients can do bigger jobs and you make more money), and they offer a bigger commission share. I am not sure they would appoint someone new, but you might try them.

You have the option of using a broker. In this day in age you will need a Non Standard Market to place bonds for clients with credit issues. Thats where I can help.
