If an individual has been on a MAPD plan and continues to reside in a skilled nursing facility for 21 days and switches to Original Medicare does Medicare start at day 22 or 0?

Also, just throwing this out there.. Unless they have Trial Rights they aren't getting approved for a Medigap plan. Meaning they're paying no cap costs.

Once your sick and can't qualify for MS, you're better off staying on the MAPD plan instead of going back to Orignal Medicare due to no cap on costsharing.

Travis provided good direction on that with regard to the no cap on expenses issue. Somarco is also correct that if GI, there is zero commission, but doing the right thing typically leads to word-of-mouth referrals. The client may also not qualify for GI, so that is something to consider.

Regarding the GI issue, I just had nursing home admin. ask me if they move from other State, for example if they lived in PA, and are moving to NJ to to be near the kids, they need rehab after surgery.... they have MAPD plan, is that GI situation, since they are moving away from service area?

Loss of coverage due to MOVING (change of address, not visiting the kids for a month) out of the service area creates an SEP and GI to Medigap.

You still have the $0 commission issue with several carriers.

Thanks, do you know of any carriers in NJ that pay commission on GI?

nope

AFAIK there are none in GA that pay more than $25 one time. I usually give them a recommendation and move on to the next prospect.

From what I have seen, based on agent comments, the few that pay a commission usually aren't carriers I would use on a regular basis. Can't see getting licensed, etc to write 1 or 2 cases a year before the carrier blows up.

But that's me.

Everyone does things differently.
